Keto Take II
My Keto Experience
So, it’s been a while since I wrote my first blog post, and while I was excited to make it a regular thing, life happened. Well, life and the fact that I wasn’t sure the direction I wanted to take. Did I want my blog to be super educational with sources and scientific studies? Did I want it to be personal and share my own journey? Let’s just say there were too many wonderful ideas floating around in my head for me to decide on just one route.
Nevertheless, I’m back. First thing I want to share with you? My actual experience while on the ever-popular (and cringeworthy to some) Keto Diet.
I LOOOOOOVED it!
Ok, post over.
Just kidding. I wouldn’t leave you hanging like that (or maybe I would, considering it’s been two years since my last post).
As you may or may not remember, when I first went into ketosis, a friend of mine basically said I stank. Badly. And that’s because the keto diet changes the way you smell. Instead of burning sugar and making you smell sweet (this is totally not a thing), your body is burning fat.
But my BO wasn’t the only thing that changed. However, before I go into that, let me back waaaay up. For the people who have been living under a rock and don’t know what the Keto Diet actually is, here’s a quick definition:
The ketogenic diet is a low-carb diet where your body produces ketones in the liver that are used as energy instead of glucose (sugar).
Ok, back to the post.
I was on the 70/20/10 plan, which is 70% fat, 20% protein, and 10% carbs. To recap, in the first two months, I lost 8 pounds, since I wanted this to be a lifestyle change, not a “lose weight quick” plan. And it was.
Here are just SOME of the benefits I saw while on this diet:
Better sleep
Glowing skin
I felt AMAZING
Do you know the feeling of just waking up and not thinking, “ugh, it’s morning.” Yeah, I didn’t either until I started Keto. But it wasn’t just that. My whole mental state shifted. I didn’t feel the need to drink. I felt rested every time I woke up. I had more energy. Who doesn’t want to feel like that?
And while I haven’t been on it in a while, I freaking miss it. Which is why I’m starting the process all over again. Even though I’ve been able to incorporate bits and pieces into my current habits, I know I still need to stop indulging in some things and get back on track.
Oh, and real quick before I sign off on this post.
Remember when I said in my last post that my cholesterol was high before the Keto Diet? Well, I was at 119 in September 2017. While I was on the diet, it dropped, but I don’t have those specific numbers handy. However, as of May 14, 2019 my cholesterol was at a whopping 128. My cholesterol totally went up once I got off Keto. Not fun.
This diet, as controversial as it is, can work. As long as you’re being smart about it, you can see some real benefits from weight loss, lower cholesterol, better skin, etc.
Ok, so now I want to hear from you. What’s your experience with Keto? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks for reading!
